Computers are required for most lessons this week

Learning Intention:
WORD/SENTENCE:
To identify the correct use of tenses
Identify that explanations are usually written in present tense

TEXT:
To identify keywords needed when using the Word Spelling Checker
Instruction and differentiated activities:
To find keywords when using the Spelling Option in Word
Type some work Demonstrate to children where the Word spelling checker is found.
Type a few sentences - deliberately including some children's names and some errors
use the spelling checker
Identify how the 'computer' does not recognise several names
Identify listed alternatives
Also identify some keywords as you go

Grouping:
This is a mixed group activity. Children to work in pairs and identify words that they have found and used when using the Word Spelling checker

Plenary:
Collect together keywords children have identified. Explain those that need explaining and group into key concepts (e.g. computer, Word). Keep for next day

TEXT:
To write an introduction for an Explanation - explaining the use of the spelling option of Word
Instruction and differentiated activities:
To write an introduction for an explanation
Refer to the keywords children collected yesterday
Shared writing - write an introduction together with children - remind children to begin with an orientation that we are using Word
Then keep the sentence starters and rub out the rest - children to use this as a writing frame

Grouping:
*HA to use keywords and write using their own structure
*MA to use the writing frame prepared together in class
*EAL/SEN to use computer picture and computer sentence builder
Resources:
*Computer picture for LA children
*Computer sentence builder for LA children
*Keywords collected from yesterday
ICT Opportunities:
*Computers are optional for support during writing

Learning Intention:
SENTENCE:
Use Poem 'I have a spilling chequer" to demonstrate the limitations of a spelling checker

TEXT:
To write the body of an explanation - remind children to remain in present tense
Instruction and differentiated activities:
To write the body of an explanation
Begin using the "I halve a Spilling Chequer" poem, get children to identify the limitations of a spelling checker (hopefully they will remember its limitations for names too!)
Begin by opening word - children to identify each of the key steps that you use - collect a numbered list. Children to use these later to write their explanation

Grouping:
HA to use paragraphs to write their explanation. Also encourage HA children to include limitations that have been demonstrated
MA to use sentence starters to write their explanation,br> LA to label a diagram of a computer and write a short sentence of each part
