Learning Intention:
To learn how to use instructions: forward, back, left and right to move the logo turtle
Instruction and differentiated activities:
*Introduce the terms fd, bk, lt, rt
*Explain that these are relative instructions and will 'change' as they are relative to the current position of the logo turtle. Give instructions to a child and demostrate this.,br> -emphasise 90 degrees, and number of steps / spaces
*Children to work in pairs, giving instructions on how to reach different pictures on a grid

Instruction and differentiated activities:
*Give children instructions on how to draw a square using instructions: - forward, back, left, right
*Children to draw a square
*Introduce the clear screen command
*For extension, children can experiment making squares of different sizes (using numbers between 20 and 80)

To learn how to use abbreviations when making quadrilateral shapes
To learn to use abbreviations
Instruction and differentiated activities:
*Recap on terms and instructions for making a square
*Explain to children that abbreviations can be used to make processing faster: Introduce abbreviations fd, bk, lt, rt, cs (clear screen)
*For extension, children can experiment with making rectangles

Instruction and differentiated activities:
*Recap how to draw squares
*Identify that the same instruction is given four times - use this to introduce the repeat function

To learn how to use procedures to define a shape
Instruction and differentiated activities:
*To square

*Now children can use the word 'square' to create a square
*For extension: Use the 'wait' command to slow down the speed of the turtle
e.g. fd 50 wait 30 rt 90

Learning Intention:
To learn how to make a repeating pattern using a short command in between the square procedure
Instruction and differentiated activities:
*Remind children how to use the square procedure
*Remind children that we have used forward and rt. AS small step forward or a turn inbetween the square prodecures will produce a repeating pattern
*Children to experiment creating patterns using the square procedure and fd or rt commands
- e.g. a small increment forward between squares will produce a ladder effect
- e.g. a turn will produce a fan effect
- e.g. if you turn and fan a shape with a 'hollow centre' will result
